Eve Arnold will receive this year's Sony World Photography Awards Lifetime Achievement Award. She will take the prize at the annual award ceremony in Cannes on 22 April (the day after her 98th birthday) among all the leading figures in the international world of photography.

Eve Arnold began working as a photographer in the early 1950. After working at a film processing plant in New York, and trained by Alexei Brodovitch, the art director of Harper's Bazaar, she approached Magnum with a series of photographs that they took had of migrant laborers in Long Island. She was one of the first women to be included in the agency. A published her first photo stories of black models at a fashion show in Harlem. She became involved in the civil rights movement, Malcolm X personally chose her to accompany him on his tours.
Early in her career she photographed stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Joan Crawford, Marlene Deitrich and Isabella Rossellini, who they all are very committed befriended. She traveled around the world and photographed international women s day fun run include China, Russia, South Africa and Afghanistan. She moved in 1960 with her son to London and was a regular contributor to the Sunday Times.
Eve Arnold, who still lives in London, continued to photograph well into the nineties, after they have spent several books, including In Retrospect and Film Journal, and kept its archives. She has all the prints of her hand (and there are thousands) of captions, date and signature features, and is still active as a member of Magnum.
A retrospective of Eve Arnold's work, from the Tosca Photography Fund Collection Zelda Cheatle as trustee, will be exhibited in Cannes (22-27 April) as part of the World Photography Festival which will include workshops, portfolio reviews, student programs and talks with members the World Photography Academy and respected people from the international community of photography will be held.
