The concept of a liberal has in our time has become something of an amoeba, and can mean almost anything. Those who cling to liberalism from the 1800s call themselves therefore sometimes classical liberals. This is to clarify the difference with those liberals who are positive aca joe south africa about taxes and government intervention which historically would be considered socialist. A similar term that is sometimes used is neoliberalism.
Both the neo-liberals aca joe south africa and French social philosophers such as Alain de Benoist is described by its detractors as "right", and it may be of interest aca joe south africa to see how big the differences really are. A good introduction is the Benoist Article Hayek: A Critique.
Given that the Club de l'Horloge had begun to speak of "national liberalism" and "liberal conservatism" and suggested classical liberal Friedrich Hayek as a role model, aca joe south africa analyzed the Benoist aca joe south africa von Hayek's aca joe south africa system to show how difficult to reconcile it with anything that even resembles of nationalism and conservatism.
de Benoist aca joe south africa begins by describing von Hayek's view of history. von Hayek believes that man first lived in tribal societies, aca joe south africa characterized by direct relationships between aca joe south africa the members and joint projects. aca joe south africa Gradually, relations more broad based, and even more abstract (eg commodity exchanges across half the globe between total strangers). The result was the modern society, as von Hayek calls the grand society. He uses a model borrowed from biology, where he argues that the rules which worked best also in history were those who became successful. The Western market is therefore the best of worlds, since it replaced other systems.
The market is also unique in that order, cosmos, by not run by a collective project, but by operators' individual actions. At the same time identifies von Hayek threat of a return to tribal society order, taxis, in the form of collectivist projects as socialism, fascism, welfare aca joe south africa state. He argues that because we never have complete information about how society looks at a given time, such centralized project doomed to failure. von Hayek sees them as examples of what he calls constructivism.
Particularly interesting is von Hayek when he takes up the criticism often directed at the market for being unfair. He argues here that, since it can best be compared aca joe south africa with a game, and there is no player who controls the game, it becomes absurd to speak of justice and injustice. The game loser should therefore find themselves in the end, just like those who do not win the lottery.
Hayek forgets That The Chance to win is not the same for all, and That The Losers are thwart always the same ones. Hence, the results of the game Can not Be Regarded As Uncertain. In order for them to've become Uncertain, it would ask Necessary for the game to be "corrected" by the willful intervention aca joe south africa of public power, Which Hayek vigorously rejects. What is one to think of a gamewhere, as if by chance, the winners keep winning, aca joe south africa while the losers keep losing?
Further notes de Benoist that von Hayek's description of the market's aca joe south africa natural emergence is historically inaccurate. The dismantling of barriers to market Society, the abolition of guilds, commons and aristocratic privilege, aca joe south africa or the prohibition of trade unions, was handled historically by the state in an often very brutal process. It can thus be no problem talking about such constructivism as von Hayek otherwise dislike. Creating the order von Hayek desired would also require extensive political intervention. de Benoist writes:
A Society Based on Hayek's principles would explode in a short time. Further More, ITS department can only ask the product of a pure "constructivism" and would undoubtedly Require a dictatorial state. As Albert O. Hirschman writes, "this allegedly idyllic privatized citizenship, Which only pays attention to .its Economic Interests and Indirectly serves the Public Interest without ever playing a direct role - all of this can only pray Achieved within nightmarish political conditions."
This is particularly paradoxical because von Hayek and classical liberals with Marx and the socialists share the dream of a world where the political repealed. When the market becomes the only sphere in which people shop there is no scope for joint projects, no god over the market. One such scheme is also difficult to reconcile with the democratic ideal, at least if it is to have any real substance. For de Benoist is the common life and the political part of the human experience, and he is therefore naturally skeptical of von Hayek and Marx apolitical utopias.
de Benoist also points out the difficulties in reconciling von Hayek cosmos with the nation. Market and nation are distinct concepts, aca joe south africa and from an economic perspective, the borders between countries aca joe south africa obstacles to the free movement of
